The extreme right-wing government of India, headed by Narendra Modi of the openly fascist Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) is carrying out a vicious campaign of persecution, vilification and terror against the country’s large Muslim minority.
The real but undeclared goal of this manifestly criminal racist policy is to bully the estimated 200-250 million Muslims of India to choose between converting to the non-monotheistic Hindu religion or putting up with mounting persecution and humiliation.
Latest insults of the Prophet were not bolts from the blue
The disgusting abuse of the Prophet of Islam (PBUH) were by no means lightning and thunder in a clear sky. In recent months, BJP’s ignorant followers attacked Muslim neighbourhoods, carried out acts of vandalism and desecrated mosques. In the northern state of Madhya Pradesh, authorities sent bulldozers to demolish Muslim homes as a collective punishment for allegedly disrupting a Hindu march marking the birthday of a Hindu god. The draconian measure wouldn’t occur anywhere in the world, perhaps except in Israel. Earlier, another Indian state barred female Muslim students from attending college classes while donning their headscarves.
And now, we have this blasphemous abuse of the greatest man to have ever walked on Earth.
True, Modi has suspended the two-party spokespersons who made the derogatory remarks towards the Prophet Muhammad
It is too premature to say if the sacking of the two spokespersons was a genuine gesture of goodwill toward Muslims inside and outside India, or just a disingenuous measure meant to absorb Muslim anger.
Unfortunately, in light of his erstwhile behaviours toward Indian Muslims, Modi cannot be given the benefit of the doubt.
Initial Muslim reactions
On Sunday, the Sheikh of Azhar Muslim academy in Cairo, representing Sunni Muslims around the world, condemned in the strongest terms, “insinuations against the Prophet of Islam” which he called “acts of terror, agitation and instigation.” Moreover, strongly-worded statements came from several Muslim capitals, including Riyadh, Manama, Kuwait, Doha, Tehran and Islamabad.
More reactions are expected, especially
following calls by some religious and community leaders to boycott Indian products.
In most Muslim countries, citizens are not particularly eager to initiate a showdown with India. However, it is very difficult to imagine another issue that would provoke Muslim sensibilities as abusing the Prophet Muhammed does.
Venomous hatred
The anti-Islam and anti-Muslim wave of hatred is reshaping nearly all aspects of Hindu culture these days. Hatred of Muslims is becoming the new religion of India’s Hindus. In fact, the overall situation throughout the second most populous country in the world is very much similar to the anti-Jewish trend in Nazi Germany in the mid of 1920s.
We all know the ghoulish end-game of such toxic indoctrination. So, one would really wonder how this nefarious campaign of Islamophobia, now inundating India, will end up and what ramifications and repercussions it will eventually generate.
We don’t want to harm India, but…..
India is important to Muslims and vice versa. The last thing Muslims would do in reaction to these provocations is to harm Indians, regardless of their religion.
But the Prophet Muhammed is our ultimate redline which Muslims would sacrifice their lives to defend. This is the message that our Hindu brothers and sisters must understand very very well.
Extensive relations India has with the Muslim world
India and the Muslim world have extensive economic, cultural and political relations. The sheer size of trade exchange between India and the Arabian Gulf region alone exceeds the $100 billion- figure. Moreover, tens of thousands of Indian workers and expatriates live and work in the Gulf countries.
In light, the Modi regime must think twice before allowing his ignoramuses to abuse Islamic religious symbols. He and his colleague should just figure out how much India would lose if the world’s two-billion Muslims decided to boycott Indian products.
Eternal oxymoron
India is undoubtedly a great country which we once considered the mother of the Third World. But a great country should also behave in a great manner, which the BJP India doesn’t.
The great pre-Islamic Arabian poet Zuheir Ibn Abi Sulma said: “Those who don’t honor themselves shall not be honored by others.”
Sadly, Modi and his BJP zealots are making it extremely hard for the two billion Muslims around the world to respect India. Respect and racism don’t go hand in hand. They are and will always be an eternal oxymoron.
